Beekeeping
Beekeeping has become an important source of income that improve the livelihoods of the disadvantaged communities of the FIZI territory. In 2019 ADEFA in patnership with other Local non-governmental organizations have facilitated the installation of 351 beehives in the rural environments of the Fizi territory. The practice not only offers economic advantages, but also contributes to environmental sustainability and community development. You will find below a detailed exploration of how beekeeping transforms lives in this region.
Beekeeping offers a source of income for families who could otherwise fight to reach both ends. The sale of honey and other bee products, such as beeswax and propolis, can generate substantial income. For many households, this additional income is crucial to meet basic needs such as food, education and health care.Market opportunities, local markets are increasingly recognizing the value of honey as a natural product. Beekeepers can sell their honey directly to consumers or through cooperatives, which helps them get better prices than they receive intermediaries.
Job creation, as beekeeping becomes more popular, it creates jobs not only for beekeepers but also for people involved in the treatment and sale of honey products. This job creation help to reduce unemployment rates in the region.Environmental sustainability , Beekeeping plays a vital role in the promotion of biodiversity and environmental health. Pollination services, bees are essential pollinators for the culture of Fizi community and wild factories. Maintaining healthy bee populations, local farmers are improving crop yields, which contributes to food security.
Health of ecosystems, healthy bee populations support various ecosystems by facilitating the reproduction of plants. This ecological balance is crucial to maintaining natural resources on which communities depend.
